Paphos (Pafos)
Paphos (Pafos) boasts a number of unique claims to fame: It was
here that Aphrodite, goddess of love, walked in from the sea
to found a thousand love cults across the Hellenic world. It
was here that Agapinor, leader of the Arcadian contingent to
Troy, was shipwrecked and it was also here that St Paul
stopped off on his way to Rome
for a quick conversion of the local proconsul. |

Paphos (Pafos) is a city where myth and reality mingle freely
and where you can see Roman villas, Byzantine churches and Crusader
castles within a few minutes walk of the harbour. Paphos (Pafos)
is an UNESCO’s world heritage site.

Modern Paphos (Pafos) sprawls above the old harbour area in a harmonious
fashion. As
Cyprus’ largest resort Paphos (Pafos) has expanded rapidly.
The historic city center remains intact, the covered market,
the museums and the Impressive Roman mosaics. The airport,
the Golf Courses, with all the amenities nearby makes
the city the number one City Destination of Cyprus not
only for the Tourists but also the local Cypriots as well.
East of Paphos
lies
the little villageof Yeroskipou (Aphrodite’s Gardens are
there) where loukoumi
(the Greek-Cypriot take on Turkish |
delight) is made and you can stock up on earthenware pottery.
Additionally East of Paphos the Temple
of Aprodite is located at the Kouklia Village. Check out
the ninth century frescoes in the Byzantine church of
Ayia Paraskevi (St Friday) and then head north to the
Baths of Aphrodite Godess of Love according to the Greek
Mythology), The Baths of Adonis (God Of Love according
to the Greek Mythology) and the wild Akamas Peninsula.

Kato Paphos (Pafos) (the harbour area) is pretty tacky; a variety
of bars, traditional
Cyprus restaurants and Taverns, and discos are filled with sunburned
Tourists. The coast line from Kato Paphos (Pafos) to the
Coral
Bay to the Caves beach to the Lara Beach and to the Akamas is
full of Sandy and rocky bays where one can enjoy the glory of
a nice suntan and the ecstasy of the clear blue Mediterranean sea. |
